2013-05-15 16:07 TFPMATaiwan's overall trade remained steady last year, compared with some economies around the world, the Bureau of Foreign Trade (BOFT) under the Ministry of Economic Affairs said in a recently released statement.
The statement, citing a World Trade Organization (WTO) annual report on various countries' trade rankings in 2012, said that Taiwan remained in the 18th place in terms of global merchandise trade last year, same as its position in the previous year.
The value of Taiwan's global merchandise trade reached US$571 billion in 2012, accounting for 1.5 percent of the world's total.
WTO economists reported that the growth in world trade fell to 2 percent in 2012, down from 5.2 percent in 2011. They projected that world trade would remain sluggish in 2013 at around 3.3 percent as the economic slowdown in Europe continues to suppress global import demand.
